Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2026

Introduction

DVine ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and authentication credentials. If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic profile information including your Google profile photo.

Profile Photos

You may optionally upload a profile photo using your device's camera or photo library. When you do, we request access to your camera and/or photo library. Profile photos are uploaded to and stored on Firebase Cloud Storage (Google Cloud). Your photo is visible to other DVine users who are your friends in the Community feature.

You can remove your profile photo at any time from the Profile screen. When removed, the photo is deleted from our servers. If you delete your account, all associated profile photos are also deleted.

Usage Data

We collect information about your reading progress, streaks, bookmarks, and app interactions to provide personalized features and improve your experience.

Device Information

We may collect device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers for analytics and app functionality.

How We Use Your Information

AI-Powered Features

DVine uses artificial intelligence to provide personalized devotional content, Bible study chat, and multi-perspective insights. When you use these features:

AI responses are generated by third-party language models and may occasionally be inaccurate. DVine is not a substitute for personal study, pastoral counsel, or professional advice.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely using Firebase, a Google Cloud service, with servers located in the United States. We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS/SSL), Firebase Authentication with secure token management, and access-controlled database rules. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

Some data (reading progress, bookmarks, preferences) is also stored locally on your device using encrypted device storage. This local data is not accessible to other apps.

Third-Party Services

We share limited data with the following third-party services to provide app functionality:

Firebase (Google Cloud)

Provides authentication, database, cloud storage, and hosting. Receives your email, display name, profile photo, and app usage data. Data is processed in the United States under Google's privacy terms.

Anthropic

Powers AI chat and personalized devotional content via Claude. Receives your reading context and chat messages for response generation. Anthropic does not use data sent through our API to train their models. Data is processed under Anthropic's commercial API terms.

RevenueCat

Manages subscription purchases and Pro access. Receives your anonymous user ID and purchase transaction data. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, or reading data.

API.Bible (American Bible Society)

Provides Bible passage text in various translations. Receives passage reference requests only — no personal information is shared with this service.

Apple / Google

If you sign in with Google, Google receives authentication requests. Apple and Google process in-app purchase transactions through their respective app stores. Push notifications are delivered through Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) or Firebase Cloud Messaging.

Device Permissions

DVine may request the following device permissions:

These permissions are optional and can be managed in your device settings at any time. The app will continue to function with limited features if permissions are not granted.

Your Rights & Choices

All DVine users have the right to:

Data Retention

We retain different types of data for different periods:

When you delete your account, we delete all associated data from our servers within 30 days. Local data on your device is cleared immediately. Some data may be retained in encrypted backups for up to 90 days before permanent deletion. Data required to be retained by law (e.g., purchase records) may be kept longer.

Children's Privacy (COPPA)

DVine is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided personal information to DVine, please contact us at support@joindvine.com. We will promptly delete the child's information from our servers.

Users between 13 and 17 may use DVine with parental or guardian consent. We encourage parents and guardians to monitor their children's app usage.

International Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws, you have additional rights:

Our legal basis for processing your data includes: your consent (account creation), contractual necessity (providing the service), and legitimate interests (improving the app and preventing abuse). Your data is transferred to and processed in the United States. By using DVine, you consent to this transfer.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@joindvine.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date.
